Windscreen Wipers
  1. How often should I change my wipers?
  2. How do I know if my wipers need to be replaced?

  1. How often should I change my wipers?
For maximum driving safety, we recommend that you change your wipers at least once a year, or sooner if, when running your thumb down the blade you find it worn or pitted.

  2. How do I know if my wipers need to be replaced?

If your wipers clean your windscreen unevenly, it is a good sign that your blades have deteriorated.  If the wiper fails to make proper contact with the screen surface, you’ll get streaky or unwiped areas which will impair your vision.  Unusual noise or chattering is also a clear warning sign.

    A) Lines

Wiper rubber can harden or become damaged with age.  The result: fine semi circular lines of water on the windscreen.

    B) Bands

Wiper rubber can harden or become damaged with age.  The result: thick bands of water are left on the windscreen.

    C) Lace Curtains

Arm defects or long periods in the park position can deform the wiper blade lipcausing a veil effect across the windscreen. Visibility danger is greatest at night, when passing other vehicles.

    D) Chatter Hopping

Deformed wiper element, worn blade linkage or a change in wiper arm characteristics can cause wiper blades to judder across the screen leaving behind radial streaks.

    E) Unwashed Margins

Deterioration of wiper blade linkage or decreased wiper pressure can leave parts of the windscreen unwashed.

    F) Noise

Noisy wipers may be sign that the wiper element is deformed or hardened or that the wiper blade structure is worn.

    G) Vibration Judder

Deformed wiper element, the wrong adaptor or aging and wear of the blade rubber and links can result in jerky and sometimes noisy wiper arm movement.

    H) Wind Lift

If high speeds persistently cause the wiper to miss out parts of the windscreen, either the wiper blade or the wiper arm should be replaced.

  3. Do I need to replace both wipers?
You should replace both wipers at the same time to help ensure clear driving vision from the entire windscreen.  Don’t forget to replace the rear blade if you have one at the same time.

  4. Is it important to clean my windscreen before installing new wipers?
Yes. Car wash wax, tree sap and a host of other contaminants create a thin film layer on your windscreen.  Use a non-abrasive cleaner and warm water to clean the windscreen. AutoGlym Fast Glass is ideal.

  5. Can I install the new wipers myself?

Yes you can. All Bosh manufactured blades are easy to fit. They come with a universal fitting kit and fitting instructions.
