- How should I connect Jump Leads to both cars?
- How should I connect Jump Leads to both cars?
- Remember GaBLE - Good and Bad, Live (+) then Earth (-). Connect the 'good' car to the bad (flat battery) car, using the live (red) lead before the earth. Attach the earth to the engine block or chassis member, rather than the negative battery terminal of the ailing car.
- Once connected, start the 'good' car first and leave its engine running, then try the 'bad' car. Once its engine is running smoothly at tick-over, remove the leads in reverse order, one at a time.
- Don't switch off. Take the ailing car for at least a 20-minute drive, making sure that the stereo, fan and other non-essentials are switched off. This will charge the battery more effectively.
- A range of jump leads are available in our shops and online (Engine & Gearbox/Jump Leads).
